The research centered on a group of women within the 25-55 age brackets. The researchers divided the women into two groups, with one group focusing on treadmill exercise and the other combining red light therapy with treadmill exercise. At the end of the two-week experiment, thermographic photographs revealed those who combined RLT and exercise had more effective changes in the thigh circumference and cellulite. This suggests the effectiveness of red light therapy and treadmill exercises in the improvement of the body’s aesthetics. [3]

 

Reduction in Waistline Girth:  A 2011 double-blind and randomized study published in the Journal of Obesity Surgery delegated light therapy at 635-680 nanometers (nm) on obese individuals with the aim of identifying the positive impacts of the therapy in reducing their waistline. At the end of the 4-week study, a statistically significant reduction of the waistline girth was achieved on each of the participants. [4]

 

Tightening Thighs and Hips: Another 2013 study in Lasers in Surgery Medicine confirmed the potentials of red light therapy at a nanometer of 635 in tightening the waist, hips, and thighs. The outcome of the study showed that the combination of exercise and red light therapy was more effective in reducing fat mass whilst increasing muscle mass.

The researchers wrote in part:

“Our results demonstrated for the first time that light therapy enhances the physical exercise effects in obese women undergoing weight loss treatment promoting significant changes in inflexibility metabolic profile.” [7]

The exact same study was conducted in 2018 however this time using younger obese women. Results obtained from the research showed that these women who combined red light therapy with exercise witnessed reductions in insulin and fat mass than those that only exercised.

The researchers of this study made the following submissions:

“It was demonstrated that exercise training associated with light therapy promotes an improvement in body composition and inflammatory processes. The light therapy group especially presented positive modifications of WNT5 signaling, FGF-21, and ANP, possible biomarkers associated with browning adiposity processes. This suggests light therapy is applicable in clinical practice to control obesity.” [8]
